Carpet cleaning and pet odor removal are not the same thing. When a call is placed to a typical carpet cleaning company the majority of that company calls are for basic carpet cleaning services such as upholstery cleaning, oriental or persian rug cleaning but for the most part 99% of the calls they recieve are for carpet cleaning and the 1% is for pet odor removal, carpet repairs and an occasional water damage.

The Pet odor Specialist Started out just like many other carpet cleaning Companies and gradually moved towards water damage restoration which consist of drying out flooded homes and its contents such as carpet, flooring, walls etc. After several years of drying we began repairing and replacing damaged flooring and drywall most carpet cleaners and carpet cleaning companies stay away from this level of service as it requires a lot more responsibility, training and understanding of health and saftey issues when treating mold or raw sewage and effective drying techniques along with a stiff price tag for all the extra equipment needed to perform these types of jobs.

One area that's been a challenge for many carpet cleaners has been pet odor removal and the first thing inexperienced carpet cleaners will do is charge you for extra deodorizer in addition to the regular cost of the carpet cleaning service some use fruit flavors, bubble gum, pine or licorice these carpet cleaning deodorizers mask the odor for a day or so and the odor is back.

More experienced carpet cleaners will use an enzyme treatment, or suggest pad injections this is ok if it is for a spot that is new or fresh.

To effectively treat pet urine odor you first have to find the source one of the first steps we take is a black light inspection to find the invisible urine stains and to illuminate the stained area to have a better idea as to how old the stains are and the consentration level of urine and cleaning products used.

Usually when we are called the home owner has already used an enzyme product from petco or petsmart such as natures miracle or pet force these products do work on fresh urine spots and incidental accidents up to a point and then it's time for professional help.

We see so much urine damage increased by over wetting with carpet cleaning products than the urine itself these prducts act as a vehicle to deliver the urine odor deep into the carpet, pad and subfloor it will eventually spread along side the wall and be absorbed into the drywall and baseboard the tackstrips made of wood will become urine soaked and the concrete subfloor will absorb as much urine as it can.......ever wonder what happened to all the gallons of solution you poured on pet urine spots?

After determining the degree of pet urine stains an damage we then decide what is the best method to treat your particular pet odor problem, such as the age of your carpet type and style, natural fiber or synthetic material, age of carpet, how long the urine has been there, has it ever been professionally cleaned and what type of method, have you been treating it and with what is the carpet able to stand an aggressive urine treatment to remove the odor , is the pet now house trained or no longer going to be in the house are you going to replace the carpet soon, is this a rental unit or owner occupied.

Here are some of the typical pet odor removal services we provide:

Pet odor treatment #1

We find the pet odor source using a ultra violet light then tag the pet stains. We then treat the areas with a specially formulated solution dissolved in very high temperature water that breaks down the pet urine so that it and odor producing bacteria can be REMOVED from your carpet. This product is NOT! designed to cover up pet odor with strong perfume fragrances like the stuff in the bottles…But, specifically to remove pet urine odor stain and urine stain this solution and contaminants are then rinsed from you carpet and pad leaving them fresh and clean.

Pet odor treatment #2

The same as pet odor treatment #1 except the carpet pad is replaced in areas where pet urine odor is present, the flooring is sealed with a special floor sealer that creates a moisture and odor barrier this product is also formulated with a penetrating urine odor neutralizer that totally eliminates pet urine odor on hard surfaces instantly!

Pet odor treatment #3

The same as pet odor treatment #2 but for more severe pet odor and includes removal and replacement of tack strips and remove or seal baseboards also in extreme cases sealing the drywall may be necessary when cats are spraying to mark territory

Pet odor treatment #4

The same as #2 and #3 but instead of treating the carpet we cut the contaminated section out and replace it with a remnant piece of carpet or we can take carpet from a closet to make the repair this method is best used on newer carpet or carpet that has not faded or worn too badly.

What is the importance of floor sealing…….the number one mistake made when treating pet odor damage is not sealing the floor. wood and concrete are porous and when dry they will absorb the urine and the odor when the temperature and humidity change this odor will be off-gas from the flooring through your new carpet and pad and smell as if you had just spent thousands of dollars for nothing.

Before you paint: if you suspect cat urine on your baseboards make sure you replace or seal them first the last thing you want to happen is rolling it all over your walls……

Never let a dry cleaner dry clean a urine spot………….

In case of a pet urine spot use a wet and dry vac or equivalent mix a solution of your favorite enzymes 1 cup to 4 cups of really hot water pour directly to stain extract repeat 2-3 times and make sure to force solution into pad this is the best method I used it for my own dogs.

Proper crate training is the fastest method to house train a dog

If you practice a feeding and watering schedule your dog will teach you his peeing and pooping schedule.
